Hannah Gooding is only 8 years old, and she is already raising money for AEDs. Hannah loves painting as well as making friendship bracelets, and she sells her creations to benefit the Wes Leonard Heart Team. The Heart Team was created in honor of Michigan high school athlete Wes Leonard who passed away due to cardiac arrest at the age of only 16. It lobbies for and provides funds for AED placement in all schools.

Hannah first got the idea to help the Heart Team after her mom, Angie, attended an AED training class. Angie told her daughter about the problem of AED shortages in schools and how those shortages can negatively impact the lives of students and teachers.

Hannah has already raised $1500 for the Wes Leonard Heart Team. Her mom is very proud of her daughter’s efforts. She says, “I think she has realized she can do whatever she wants if she puts her mind to it and she can really accomplish whatever she wants to do” (Source).

Hannah was recently featured on a local Michigan radio station alongside another young girl named Maggie who sells flowers she gardens to raise money for underprivileged families. Both girls are a great reminder that you are never too young to make a difference in your community.
